PUBLIC UTILITY

Monkeypox, currently called MPOX, is an infectious disease caused by a virus from the same family as human smallpox (Orthopoxvirus). Although it generally presents mild symptoms, the infection can develop into more serious clinical conditions and therefore requires attention and adequate care.

Transmission

The virus is mainly transmitted through:

Direct contact with lesions, scabs or bodily fluids of infected people; Contact with contaminated objects, such as clothing, towels, sheets and surfaces; Respiratory droplets in situations of close and prolonged contact with infected individuals. It is important t

o emphasize that MPOX is not restricted to any specific group of the

population. Anyone can become infected by coming into contact with the virus.

Main symptoms

Fever, chills, headache, muscle pain and fatigue; Swollen lymph nodes (swellings); Appearance of skin lesions, which evolve in different phases (macules, papules, vesicles, pustules and crusts).

 Prevention

Key preventive measures include:

Avoid direct contact with people who have symptoms or suspicious skin lesions;   Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol gel;   Do not share personal objects, such as clothes, towels or utensils;   Isolate suspected or confirmed cases until the lesions have completely healed.

 Guidance in case of symptoms

If infection is suspected:

Seek medical attention immediately;

Avoid physical contact with other people;

Cover the lesions with clothing and wear a mask when leaving the house;

Do not scratch or pop the lesions and do not apply medications or homemade products without medical advice.
